Last year, I wrote a couple of posts on the benefits of journaling and how I use Evernote as my primary journaling tool. It was effective for me, but only up to a certain point. At one point, it became almost a chore for me to journal daily. Now, I’ve found an even better journaling app for myself which I’ve been actively using – introducing to you, Flava.
Evernote is great, no doubt. I use it for almost everything – note-taking, list-making and brainstorming activities. After a while, I’d decided that I needed a separate app, something different, exclusively for journaling. After researching and trying out on a number of apps, I’d finally choose Flava (it’s free!) as my new primary journaling app, and I loved it instantly!
I had a few ‘must-have’ criteria when choosing a mobile journaling app:
1) Available and sync-able across multiple devices and platforms, and cloud-based (Android, iOS, Web).
2) Easy and quick entry and easy viewing.
3) Ability to add tags and icons.
4) Ability to attach photos, videos and audio files.
5) Most importantly above all, a pleasant experience that makes me want to create journal entries everyday!
Flava fulfilled all the above and more. It is incredibly simple yet powerful, quirky and a great joy to use. The interface doesn’t get in the way of powerful daily reflections and recording them down. Conversely, it enhances the experience, at least in my experience of using it for about four months now.
I also love the ‘Timeline’ feature which makes it so intuitively easy to scroll and view all my entries. You can even ‘playback’ your life in pictures with a click of a button.
For me, I don’t write long diaries. I don’t record down every single moment of the day, just important events, lessons, inspiring thoughts or powerful emotions. Sometimes, I just write down one sentence, or a picture with a few words. It’s as simple as updating your Facebook or Twitter status.
It might not seem like significant, but when I play them back after a few months, I had a couple of powerful insights and self-discoveries into my own life.
Now for me, journaling has become so much easier, fun and inspiring.
Just take a quick look at their quirky introductory video:

Oh, did I mention that Flava is FREE to use?
You can get it from iTunes (Apple), Play Store (Android) or from the web at https://www.takeflava.com. Just sign up with your chosen username and password and you’re good to go.
I’d encourage you to keep a journal (if you haven’t) to capture your precious memories and learning moments. Don’t waste them away! Now, you can’t use the excuse that it’s hard, inconvenient or time-consuming. If you can type a couple of sentences on your phone, then you can journal. There are so many other apps beside Flava. I’m just recommending it because I’ve tried the others and it’s free and easy to use, so you don’t have to waste your time and money in trying others.
