This is the phase to be very creative and have plenty of fun. It’s all about opening up and broadening your thinking. Do not discount or dismiss any idea that comes to you at this stage even though it may appear foolish or not viable. Remember this: anything is possible! You won’t know if something is really possible until you have a go at it.
Options = Brainstorming Ideas!
Go grab yourself a pen and paper, or open up your favorite word processing program or mind-mapping software. Then, list down as many ideas and action steps you can take to get you to your goal. The idea here is to produce as many points as you can. Quantity is the key.
You can also use the following coaching questions to guide you in listing down your options:
1) If money is no object, what would you do?
2) If you knew you could do anything and not fail, what would you do?
3) What else would you do? (Keep asking this repeatedly)
4) Which ideas excite you? What makes you come alive?
5) How many different solutions and ways can you come up with?
Again, I want to remind you that you don’t have to worry about writing down crazy or ‘stupid’ (it seems) ideas. Just let the inner child in you come out and play. Don’t be critical or judgmental to filter or throw away some of the ideas. We’ll trim them down in the next phase.
Only when you have listed down loads and loads of ideas and actionable steps, are you ready to move on to the last phase of The GROW Model.
